Lady Mary's  confinement finally came to an end on April 17, 1924, She was in their compartment and felt sharp pains in her stomach. She rang for the bell and Mrs. Medlock answered her, " Yes Lady Mary?"
"Mrs. Medlock send for Mrs. Sowerby I am in labor. I am having sharp pains that are coming and going." Mary said, "Ask Lord Collin to come upstairs please."
"Yes Lady Mary, I will send James to go pick up Susan Sowerby and your obsterician." Mrs. Medlock said.

Mrs. Medlock quickly descended the stairs and knocked on the study door where Lord Collin was doing some work .
"Excuse me Lord Collin, Lady Mary is in labor. I have sent James to go pick up Mrs. Sowerby and I have called Lady Mary's obsterician as well." Mrs. Medlock said, "Lady Mary is asking for you."

"I will go at once to be with Lady Mary." Collin said, getting up and pushing his chair into his desk. He walked quickly out of the study and climbed the stairs and walking down the corridor to their compartment.

There in their bed laid Lady Mary in her first stages of labor.
"Mary my dearest I came at once." Collin said.
"Our child is on her/his way." Mary said trying to endure the pain.
"I will have Mrs. Medlock have the Cook brew you some white willow bark tea it will  help relief the discomfortable you are feeling and will help you to relax and get some rest." Collin said.

Collin called for Mrs. Medlock to him and said, "Go at once and tell the Cook to brew Lady Mary some white willow bark tea with honey in it."
"Yes Lord Collin, I will go right now and tell the Cook of your wishes."
Mrs. Medlock said.
"I will stay by your side until it is time for me to go into the corridor so the doctor and Mrs. Sowerby can do their jobs." Collin said, "I will be right outside the door if you need me."

A few minutes later Mrs. Medlock brings up a pot of white willow bark tea with honey and fresh tea cup. She pours some out into the tea cup and holds it to Lady Mary's lips.

"Drink as much as you can Lady Mary. The more you drink the less pain you will feel." Mrs. Melock said.

Mary drank three cups of white willow bark tea with honey and finally  lied back on her pillows.
Collin asks Mary " How are you feeling my dearest Mary?"
"I am feeling much better. The pain and discomforter has subsided." Mary said lying back on her pillows.

"Lord Collin the white willow bark tea is making Lady Mary drowsy and she will need her rest later on." Mrs. Medlock said.

"I will sit right here with Lady Mary until Mrs. Sowerby arrives with Lady Mary's doctor." Lord Collin said.

"I am very tired I want to sleep." Lady Mary said.
"Sleep my dear Mary. You have a ways to go before you bring this child into the world to be with us." Collin said.
Mary smiles and falls into a peace slumber.
Lord Collin stayed by Lady Mary's side until Mrs. Sowerby showed up and said, " How is Milady Lord Collin?"
"She is resting comfortably." Collin said looking down at Mary as sleeps.
"Milady will need her rest because when it comes time to deliver the baby into the world she will need all her strength." Mrs.Sowerby said.

"How long does she have to wait?" Collin asks Mrs. Sowerby.
"There is no telling baby comes when they want too." Mrs.Sowerby says, " Lord Collin have ye chosen a name for ye baby if it is a girl or boy."

"Yes if it is a daughter we have picked out the name of Lady Elizabeth Lily Rose and if it is a boy he shall be called Lord Collin Harry Albert." Collin said.

"Lord Collin, Milady is carrying her baby low. I know ye thinks this as nothing as an old wives tale but I have never bee wrong in determing the sex of the child. MiLady will have a daughter." Mrs. Sowerby says.

"I am not choosey Mrs. Sowerby  I just want a healthy baby and my dear Mary to come out of this safely and both be healthy." Collin said.

"Milady is young and healthy. The doctor expects no difficulties." Mrs. Sowerby said and she pulls up a chair to sit my Lady Mary's bedside.

Mary sleeps for several hours and when she wakes up she feels the pains return and Mrs. Sowerby pulls her some more white willow bark tea and honey and says,"Drink Milady it will make your labor and delivery easier on you."

Lady Mary drinks two more cups of white willow bark tea but the labor pains comes more quckly than before.

Mrs. Sowerby reaches up the sheets to examine Lady Mary and says, " Ah I see this baby is in a hurry. We will need you to push Lady Mary because your child is on the way out."

Lady Mary is held up by Martha and Mrs.Medlock and Mrs.Sowerby says, " Milady push, push very hard because one good push and your baby will be here."

Lady Mary pushes and Mrs.Sowerby reaches for a towel to place the crying infant into it so she can bath it and dress it in baby layette.

Lady Mary lies back exhausted and Collin comes rushing in and said, "What news What news!"

Collin goes to Mary's bedside and said, "My dearest Mary how are you feelings?"
"I am alright my dear Collin. I just had a baby." Mary says
Mrs. Sowerby walks over and places the baby in Lady Mary's arms and says, "Lord Collin, Lady Mary meet your new baby daughter."

Collin looks down at Mary holding their new daughter and Mary says, " We shall name her as we planned Lady Elizabeth Lily Rose, but she shall be known as Lady Lily."

"Yes it is a beautiful name for our beautiful daughter,  Lady Lily, named after my dear late mother, Lady Lily Craven." Collin said.

Lady Mary cradles her new born daughter in her arms and kisses their daughter and says, " Lady Lily is now heiress to Misselthwaite Manor."

Mrs. Sowerby comes over and says, "Lady Mary you need your rest and Martha will tend to the baby until you recuperate and are able to get out of bed."

Lady Mary kisses her daughter  and gives her to Mrs. Sowerby to place in her cradle. She lies back on her pillows and says, " I am tired I need to rest."

"I will stay by your side and wait to you are sleep." Collin said
"Yes stay by my side until I fall asleep." Mary says.
It doesn't take long for Lady Mary to fall back a sleep.
